What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Visitors
We collect no information from visitors to the website who do not log in, leave a comment, upload media, interact with embedded content, or otherwise actively provide us their data.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to aid in spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your Gravatar profile picture (if any) is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
We do not permit downloading of images from the website. If you wish to obtain one of the photos please leave a comment and someone will contact you and erase any contact info you provided from the comments. The only images uploaded are from the webmaster.
Email contact
If you choose to email one of the provided addresses, we collect and store the email address used to contact us, as well as any information provided in the message or contact form. This is done in order to efficiently respond to any comments or reports. Emails may be stored indefinitely to ensure we have context to respond to related correspondence.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the website from which the content is linked.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. We will attempt to make it obvious when content is embedded as opposed to local.
Analytics
We do not analyze any data you provide us except in order to better provide or improve this Website’s services. No automatic analytics are performed with the exception of third party analytics if you choose to interact with embedded content as described above.
Who we share your data with
With one exception, we do not share your data with anyone and will not share your data unless served with a legitimate US court order or similar legal proceeding. As elaborated below, visitor comments may be sent through an automated third party anti-spam filter (Akismet), but no additional data is provided and this data is used only to improve spam detection.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website staff can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. This may take some time to collect all information, depending on how much you have provided, so please be patient. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for legal or security purposes.
You may request deletion of all of your data at any time by emailing admin@clockworksun.com and mentioning the name of the website (journeywithjoeandjane.com) in your message. One of the Website’s staff will be in contact shortly afterwords to confirm your request for deletion and to begin the process. Please provide up to a week after confirmation to allow time for us to ensure none of your data remains on our systems. Another week may be required to ensure no data remains in our backups, and if we happen to restore from backup during this week, your data may be inadvertently recovered. We will do our best to avoid this scenario and will attempt to ensure all of your data is re-deleted. Please contact us if you think we made a mistake.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service (Akismet), but no humans besides the Website staff will see any data besides that which is visible to the public (such as comments, etc). Data sent to Akismet may include IP address, user agent, referrer, and the publicly visible contents of the comment. This data is only used to improve spam detection.
Additional information
How we protect your data
Our site is fully secured by an SSL encryption layer (as notated by the padlock and https in the URL) so your information, including passwords and personal details, is encrypted from the moment it leaves your computer to the moment it arrives on our server.
All user passwords are salted and hashed, and never *ever* stored in plain text. We encourage all users of the site to use strong, randomized passwords that are difficult to guess, perhaps through a password manager.
Two-factor authentication is in the works and will be coming eventually, rolling out to Website staff first and regular users later.
What data breach procedures we have in place
If you have any information about a data breach or other security flaw in the Website, please contact admin@clockworksun.com, mention the website name (journeywithjoeandjane.com) in your message, and provide as many details as you possess. We will immediately look into the problem and provide more information once we know more.
What third parties we receive data from
We receive no information about our users from third parties, with the exception of YouTube analytics if you choose to watch our videos either on this site in embedded form or on YouTube itself. YouTube, owned by Google, has a privacy policy located here.
What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data
There are no decisions made on this Website without a member of Website staff involved in the process, with the possible exception of automated spam detection. However, a member of Website staff will still review detected spam and will restore deleted comments if they determine the automated system has made a mistake.
