We spent November at one of our favorite camping spots – Bryn Mawr Ocean Resort on Butler Beach just south of St Augustine, FL. Butler Beach is wide and has a very gentle slope to the water, making it a great place for beach walks. The seafood in the area is delicious, even though we just did take-out due to the pandemic. We like to visit this area in November because the crowds are down, the temperatures are comfortable, and hurricane season is over. However, this year it rained more days than not and we took a glancing blow from tropical storm Eta as it went just north of us. We experienced some wind and rain, but that is all.
Joe only went out for the sunrise a few times this visit, but he chose wisely and caught some good ones.
The shorebird population was down compared to prior years, but those that were at the beach provided some good entertainment. It is fun to watch them dodging the waves, finding food, and generally cruising around.
While there weren’t many birds, the butterflies made up for it. They were plentiful and many different varieties were around.
On this morning a thunderstorm with near 50 mph winds and heavy rain was just to the west when this photo was taken. Joe was soaked when he got back to the camper about 100 yards from where he took this photo above.
St Augustine, we’ll be back in a few years. Hopefully next time less rain, no pandemic, and more sunshine, OK?
