Charleston, SC was our next stop on our way to Florida for the winter. Charleston is a great city, with lots of history, great beaches, wildlife, and food.
One of the many old houses in the historic district. There are blocks and blocks of similar houses in Charleston.
Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, one of the landmarks in Charleston, is a cable-stayed bridge over the Cooper River.
Pineapple Fountain is a focal point of the Charleston Waterfront Park.
Another fountain in Waterfront Park.
Folly Beach as seen from the pier looking toward Charleston.
This pelican was the most aggressive beggar we found on the Folly Beach pier. This guy really got up close the with fishermen on the pier, trying to steal their bait and succeeding to a large degree.
A Roseate Spoonbill (pinkish bird) that found its way from Florida to South Carolina. It is very unusual for them to be this far north and their arrival was being promoted by Caw Caw Nature Center.
I think this is a black snake. It was resting along the side of the path I was hiking. FYI – I used a telephoto lens to take this picture and was more than 10 feet away from the snake.
Just down the path from the snake, I found this alligator sunning itself along the bank of a small stream.
The Angel Tree is huge, an amazing sight.
We had a great time in Charleston, SC.
